SIEMENS has released a compact optocoupler module which can quickly switch high load currents of up to four amperes at 24V DC.

The new unit is an expansion of the company’s Simatic top connect system cabling which allows users to connect I/O components quickly to the S7-300 Controller modules. It is has a compact size, with a width of 134mm.

According to the company, the optocoupler technology has a high switching frequency of up to 500 hertz. Conventional relays have only five to ten switching cycles per minute.

The new module can adapt the controllers’ output signals to the power requirements of the I/O devices. Eight overload and short-circuit-proof 24V outputs can be used with I/O devices with power requirements of up to four amperes.

Red and green LEDs indicate the operating state of each channel, and the module is available with screw or spring-loaded terminals.
