SIEMENS has released a continuous radar level measurement transmitter featuring 24GHz frequency-modulated continuous wave technology and process intelligence echo processing.
The SITRANS LR 460 is based on the LR 400 platform, and is used for solids applications containing extreme dust, high temperatures, and long ranges to 100m.
The measurement transmitter can measure most solid mediums, including cement powder, fly-ash, coal, gypsum, flour, grain, aggregates and plastics. It also includes new process intelligence, echo-processing software and a re-designed high-frequency/high gain circuitry.
The unit has an antenna system said to be designed for low loss and improved gain, increasing the signal-to-noise ratio over previous units. This allows for detection of very low dielectric constant materials at long ranges. The horn antenna measures 100mm in diameter, and no larger diameter parabolic dish is required.
According to the manufacturer, it has applied its Sonic Intelligence software to the radar unit, allowing signal analysis of echoes received from the application.
The transmitter uses a Quick Start Wizard for set-up. Process intelligence takes over after initial configuration, and responds automatically to changing material slope conditions and physical silo features such as fixed obstructions or build-up.
The company claims the results from the instrument are repeatable, fast and provide for continuous measurement of material during static, discharge or filling conditions.
