BESTECH Australia has released the EDS series of long-stroke sensors from Micro-Epsilon, for measuring the displacement and position of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders’ pistons and valves.

According to Bestech Australia, the EDS long-stroke sensors are suited for harsh industrial conditions, due to pressure-resistant stainless steel housing. The sensor electronics and signal conditioning are integrated in a sensor flange.

The EDS sensor measures displacement, distance, gap, deflection, stroke, filling level, immersion depth, and other variables. It uses an aluminium sleeve as a target. The sleeve is integrated into the piston rod and is passed without making contact over the sensor rod.

The EDS sensor uses the eddy current principle, meaning no permanent magnets need to be mounted inside the cylinder. It has a measuring range from 100mm to 630mm, and operates in temperatures from -40°C to 85°C.
