ATLAS Copco has redesigned its GA 5-11/GA 5-15kW variable speed drive oil-injected screw compressors for an 8% increase in air delivery.

Atlas Copco’s redesigned compact oil-injected screw compressor range is said to deliver noise levels as low as 60dB, an extended operating range, and a new Elektronikon controller.

The GA 5-15 variable speed drive range of compressors is used for a general assembly and manufacturing applications.

According to Atlas Copco, it acknowledged that energy costs can account for up to 70% of a compressor’s lifecycle cost, so it aimed to reduce the cost drastically with each new generation of compressors.

Atlas Copco claims its engineers succeeded in lowering Specific Energy Requirements by up to 8% by integrating the new screw compressor element in an enhanced packaging. Modifications increased free air delivery by up to 8% at the same time.

Additionally, for applications whose compressed air demand fluctuated, the advanced control algorithms of Atlas Copco’s Variable Speed Drive can help save up to 35% of energy used.

Atlas Copco says the redesigned compressors are more reliable, with improved belt-driven drive trains, and remote online monitoring features built into the Elektronikon controller in the GA 5-15 variable speed drive.

According to Atlas Copco, operators can control and monitor their compressor through the Internet. Up to six compressors may be controlled via use of the graphical controller.
