WOODSIDE Petroleum will be temporarily shutting down the North West Shelf liquefied natural gas (LNG) project plant in Western Australia due to problems.

The plant’s production trains came online at the end of August 2008.

The maintenance shut-down will occur in the second half of 2009, although no further detail on timing or duration has been released.

According to Woodside, technical problems mean the fifth unit is only running at 80 to 90% capacity.
