PERTH-based Coastline Kitchens has upgraded its waste handling technology at the same time it moved into a nested-based manufacturing platform, hoping to improve their OH&S and environmental impact.
The new Optiflow system from Eximo allows the company to handle all wood-dust and airborne particles using lower pressures and less power than its predecessor.
The new system is said to have the flexibility to add and remove machines without affecting the dynamics of the extraction system. This allows future upgrades to new machinery or system changes.
According to the company, the price of the Optiflow system was higher than other technologies, but consumed less energy and had better flexibility to provide medium-term savings.
The recent upgrade to nested-based manufacturing required more negative pressure, which necessitated the move to the new system. The upgrade process had to take place without affecting production. The flexibility of the waste management system allowed this.
The new technology is integrated with an overall pressure-driven extraction system which creates a negative pressure chamber across the entire factory to eliminate the total static pressure of the whole system by up to 50%.
Waste material is suctioned in by intake points around the factory, and directed to a chamber which conveys the material to collection bins, cutters, shredders or compactors.
