THE WA Energy Minister Fran Logan will visit the Varanus Island gas plant, the site of an explosion which slashed his state’s gas supply by 30%.

According to Apache Energy, the operators of the plant, it has completed an initial inspection of the damage to the plant. A pipeline rupture had caused an explosion and fire on 3 June 2008.

The company says piping infrastructure and some control equipment have been damaged, but expects the situation to be clarified with subsequent investigations.

Apache is said to be working with the WA State Government to minimise the impact of the incident on gas supplies.
