VICTORIA University says it is running several courses in hazardous area training for maintenance workers, and contractors.

According to Victoria University, the courses will provide AS/NZS and IEC International standard compliance to personnel involved in plant/equipment installations, service and maintenance.

All equipment installed in hazardous areas, such as facilities with Potentially Explosive Atmospheres, are subject to inspections at given intervals. Selecting and installing the wrong equipment can cost lives, time and money, so knowing the correct inspection and maintenance techniques are vital.

Victoria University says its hazardous area courses will teach participants to recognise, classify and maintain hazardous areas, as well as the legislative obligations relating to workplace safety.

Participants will develop and manage maintenance schedules and maintain necessary verification dossiers. They will also learn and become familiarised with the latest equipment and installation techniques.

At completion of any of the hazardous areas short courses, the student will receive a certificate of attainment for the competencies covered. The participants are also issued a card that can be presented on demand to prove competency and safe work practices training in hazardous areas.
