Upgrades to a wastewater treatment plant

JOHN HOLLAND has been awarded a $148m contract to upgrade the Murrumba Downs Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The contract will see the facility’s capacity increase to 30.8 megalitres per day, in a move to meet the demands of a growing population within Brisbane’s Northern Growth Corridor.

According to the contractor, it will use bio-nutrient removal and odour control technology to meet rigorous environmental standards. A new odour control system will also be installed to reduce the impact of the plant on surrounding community.

The upgrade contract is an extension to the current $44m Advanced Water Treatment Plant project by John Holland on the same site, which is due for completion late 2008.
