Solar power for perimeter security

LEDA-Vannaclip explores the possibilities of using alternative energy technology for perimeter security applications.

According to the company, solar power technology has been in use for a long time across many applications, but has seen poor take-up within the perimeter security market because the two technologies have thus far been incompatible.

Security personnel were concerned over power storage limitations, control panel reliability and the need to rely on the availability of direct sunlight.

The company claims it has successfully developed a single operating platform which uses simple, low voltage motors and efficient control systems which operate on low amounts of energy. It also claims to have achieved efficient battery charging through a solar panel that is not reliant on direct sunlight.

According to the company, solar power can be used at remote sites where cabling is not feasible or too expensive, or at sites with infrequent and low cycle use of its main perimeter equipment. It is also suitable for sites with extensive underground facilities, and applications where both legacy and new systems coexist.
