Renewable power options for Victorian desalination plant

VICTORIA’S Water Minister Tim Holding has met with the Power Grid Option Group (PGOG) to discuss the options for powering the state’s desalination plant project.

According to Minister Holding, the meeting was positive although it did not come to a decision. The facility will be running on renewable energy from a grid connection, gas-fired plant or hybrid power plant.

A grid connection would require underground lines to be run between Woolamai and the site of the facility.

The government has also encouraged affected groups and landowners to make a public submission on the power option. Public submissions close end of business day day 30 September 2008.
