THE FEDERAL Government is granting $750,000 to upgrade equipment and pay for construction and electrical renovations at a Telarah coal industry training plant.

The plant is currently used to evaluate, wash and prepare coal for external quality. When the upgrades are complete, the plant will be able to host than 100 students in fields such as the operation of coal preparation plants and pump and machinery maintenance.

Renamed the Coal Quality Skills Centre, the facility will be used by MineSkills Australia to offer certificate two and three courses in coal preparation.

The reinvigorated facility will be operational by 2009. The government is hoping it will boost regional coal quality use and address regional skills shortage.
