ENERPAC says Outotec has used its hydraulic torque wrenches and pumps, together with Boltstress ultrasonic technology to optimise safety and reliability at its mills.
Enerpac’s hydraulic technology is being used to improve the speed, accuracy and safety of bolting operations in the construction of SAG and ball mills.
According to Enerpac, the combination of the technologies means each bolt can be fastened in a couple of minutes to the exact required tension, saving time and ensuring precision.
Outotec says it used the combined technique when assembling the critical load-bearing frames. The bolts varied in size from 30 to 60mm diameter, with up to 1000 bolts being tightened to the correct tension in each mill.
Outotec had employed Boltstress bolt testing for about two years before teaming it with the Enerpac ZU4208TE-Q pump and W-Series torque wrenches and socket accessories.
W-Series low profile hexagonal wrenches have precisely repeatable torque from 2712 to 20337Nm. Coupled with the high-speed ZU4208TE-Q pump, they are used to ensure correct power, precision and repeatability in loosening and tightening nuts.
According to Outotec, the Boltstress-Enerpac combination allows engineers to pre-set all the parameters. The actual bolting job can then be done by a trained operator without worrying about setting up the correct data properties.
