SIEMENS’ gearless mill drives have been used to fully energise and rotate Equinox Minerals’ Lumwana Copper Project’s SAG mill.
The operation was undertaken by engineering contractor Ausenco Bateman on 28 June 2008.
According to the companies, the process was only carried out after extensive testing and commissioning. This included mechanical, electrical and electronic tests by a triad of companies.
The primary crusher was also commissioned during this period. According to Equinox, this is a significant milestone towards first concentrate production from the facility.
