John Holland to upgrade alumina refinery

JOHN Holland will be carrying out structural mechanical and piping works in an upgrade project for Worsley Alumina’s Western Australia refinery.

The $125m contract is part of a $2.5b upgrade of the facility. These will help increase the refinery’s capacity to 4.6m tonnes per year, an improvement of nearly 30%.

Work will start in September 2008, with the completion date slated in June 2010.

This will include pre-assembly and installation of 56,000m of piping, 6000t of structural steel, and 200t of bulk mechanical items.
