INPEX has opened its first office outside of Japan in Darwin, in order to cater for the 300 staff members who will operate and maintain its Ichthys gas plant.

According to Inpex, the 300-strong full-time workforce will keep the gas plant running over the forty years of the project.

The Ichthys gas plant is being built over the next four to five years, with first gas shipment due 2014 or 2015.

Inpex says the opening of the Darwin office is an indication of the company’s growing investment in Australia to support its exploration and production activities.
