SEVENTEEN power engineering students have received $8000 bursaries from the Queensland Power Engineering Alliance to boost their studies.
The funding program is part of a bid to attract and retain talented young engineers by Queensland’s energy companies.
Announcing the bursary recipients, minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson said the students will constitute a new generation of skilled technicians and engineers for maintaining the reliability of the power facilities.
Queensland’s energy sector is said to be experiencing fast growth, corresponding to an increased demand for skilled workers.
In a separate announcement at the same event, the Queensland Power Engineering Alliance said it would be merging with the Australian Power Institute. Both industrial bodies say this move will allow them to pool their resources and programs.
