ENVIRONMENT Protection Authority Victoria says it has identified equipment at meat processing company Australian Tallow as the source of odours in the Brooklyn area.

According to EPA Victoria, it received more than 40 reports from the public about odours in the area.

The authority has directed Australian Tallow to stop using the faulty equipment until it can demonstrate the machinery will not produce offensive odours. The meat processing company is undertaking repair works to ensure the problem does not arise in the future.

According to Australian Tallow, it has closed the line down in the meantime, and the problem was a fire in a key piece of equipment which was compromising odour control.

The meat processing company is also completing the installation of a new bio filter which will provide extra capacity to treat odours.
