A CHEMICAL factory at Lytton, Brisbane, went up in flames on 16 October 2009, prompting fire crews to establish a 30m exclusion zone.

According to Queensland Fire and Rescue, the factory contained polystyrene, polyurethane and acetone, which produce toxic gases when burned. Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and put out the fire within an hour.

Fire crews say they managed to prevent contamination from the factory getting into a creek nearby. They have ventilated the building and investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, which is not being treated as suspicious.
