ARC Advisory Group says a drive by factories to reduce energy consumption could boost the intelligent pump market.

Intelligent pumps combine electronics, mechanics and computing to enable more efficient operation. According to the ARC Advisory Group study, the overall pump market has fallen flat, but the intelligent pumps sector is expected to grow.

Intelligent pumps are currently embraced by the building automation sector, as they can automatically adjust to the wide range of system demands of climate control applications.

According to ARC Advisory Group, the improved process control and intelligence afforded by intelligent pumps also allows predictive maintenance and asset management.

The industrial manufacturing sector has so far yet to see widespread adoption of intelligent pumps, due to perceived complexity and initial outlay outweighing the benefits of increased efficiency and control.

Intelligent pumps can provide various advantages to industrial processes. Process disturbances as a result of load changes, set point changes, or from discontinuous operation can affect product quality, and reduce equipment reliability and life. Intelligent pumps can smooth out such fluctuations.

The stimulus packages being launched by governments around the world have a number of stipulations targeting energy efficiency. According to ARC Advisory Group, these initiatives could help intelligent pumps increase market share.
