Corrosion at desalination plant delays commission

THE TUGUN desalination plant in Queensland will be commissioned later than expected, after corrosion was discovered at the facility.

The plant would have been in full production in the week starting 10 January 2009, but 45 pipe couplings were found to be corroding, prompting replacement.

The Queensland government says it will not accept the plant until the faults are fixed. It claims this delay will not significantly affect the south-east’s water supply, because dam levels are good.
