HUNTINGWOOD-based Diageo Australia has won the Sustainable Business Processes Award in Sydney Water’s 2008 Every Drop Counts awards program.

According to the company, it managed to drastically improve its water efficiency by using a combination of continuous improvement methodology, capital investment in water saving projects, technology and constant maintenance.

The facility has a reverse osmosis system which produces water for making drinks. Special monitors inspect the system and technology daily, to ensure it works as specified.

The award was given to the business for a system which recovers, cools and reuses water used in vacuum pumps during drinks manufacturing. This saves around 18m litres of drinking water per year.
