BARRETT Burston Malting says its $80m Pinkenba malting facility is going to be the biggest in Queensland, with carry-on jobs for the maintenance industry.

Barrett Burston began construction on the malting facility recently. Pinkenba Maltings is expected to create up to 20 new jobs, converting Queensland and NSW barley into brewing malt.

This malt will be supplied to Foster’s Yatala Brewery and also exported to brewers in Asia.

According to Barret Burston, the local maintenance industry will see a windfall of jobs due to flow-on effects from the facility.

The Pinkenba malting plant will use German designed equipment and the latest technology, and is due to be functional in early 2011.
