ACTIVE Air Rentals and Fantech say their temporary ventilation system was used in Channel 10’s hit show MasterChef.
The MasterChef TV program put 20 contestants into a single room to develop their cooking skills. This had the potential to create a lot of smoke and odour that would affect both the filming quality and comfort of the contestants and crew.
The producers at Fremantle Media approached Active Air Rentals regarding a potential solution.
After inspecting the MasterChef set, Active Air Rentals consulted with Fantech to determine what fans would best suit the application.
The choice depended on a few key factors. The ventilation option needed to the temporary, as the set will be used for other shows once filming of MasterChef concludes. Secondly, noise levels had to be low, as the fans need to operate while filming.
Active Air Rentals opted for three adjustable pitch 630mm diameter axial fans (AP0634AP10/29) to be mounted on the roof. Semi-rigid flexible 600mm diameter ducting run off each fan and entered the set through existing windows that had been removed. The internal ductwork was hung as high as possible to ensure it was out of shot.
According to Active Air Rentals, the fans had a decibel rating of only 66 at 3m. This ensured no noise could be picked up during filming.
The producers have extended the hire of the fans for the filming of celebrity MasterChef in the same building.
