Government grants facilitate green efficiency upgrades

THE FEDERAL Government has launched a $75m Re-tooling for Climate Change grants program.

Under this program, small and medium sized manufacturers will be granted between $10,000 and $50,000 to upgrade their equipment and facilities to reduce the environmental impact of their production processes.

According to the government, the program is part of its strategy to tackle climate change. It emphasised manufacturers need to be involved in the process, which will also see greater production efficiencies.

Australian manufacturers are already reducing their energy consumption. The program is expected to accelerate these efforts. Grants will meet up to one-third of the costs of projects to improve energy or water efficiency.

Manufacturers will be supported in initiatives such as creating small-scale cogeneration plants to capture waste energy, stormwater capture and water recycling, improving insulation and recovering waste heat, and process re-engineering to use energy-efficient tools.

  • I want to share with others a brilliant solution i have stumbled on to help minimise our energy and water foot print whilst also reducing cost (suprised! me too). World Environmental Solutions put forward what they call their multi-gen system. This allows us to generate ceaner, greener precise electricity from gas driven micro turbines, they use the waste heat from the turbines to supply us hot water and they are also putting heat through an absorption chiller to give us extra cooling capacity, this has us gob smacked. On the water side of things they are talking about making water for us from an air to water maker, and recapturing evaporative loss from our cooling towers to put back into the system thus saving millions of litres. Easy to deal with, willing to help company, i recommend, great innovation using logic. ****
